RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Raleigh Police are investigating after two people were killed in a crash on I-40 Saturday afternoon.
According to the Raleigh Police Department, the crash happened on the westbound side of I-40 near Wade Avenue. Officers said a vehicle that was driving at "excessive speeds" and changing lanes crashed into another vehicle before going over a guardrail and into a tree.

The driver and a passenger of the speeding vehicle were taken to the hospital where they later died.
Several lanes were closed for hours following the crash.

No other injuries were reported, RPD said.
