Raleigh stay inside warning canceled; police search ends with suicide

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A chaotic scene in Raleigh ended with a suicide Monday afternoon.

It began around 2:30 p.m. when officers received a call from workers at the Discount Tire on West Millbrook Road near Glenwood Avenue about a man with a gun who had fired one shot into the air.

Raleigh Police Department quickly issued a warning to people and businesses in the area to keep everybody inside.

"We just didn't' have a lot of information at that time. We didn't know what the intentions of the individual were, so the decision was made to send that out just so everybody could shelter in place," an officer told ABC11 crews.

When officers arrived and located the man, they followed him into the woods and heard a gunshot.

Officers said that gunshot was the man pulling the trigger and killing himself.
