"The side of the building that faces Roxboro...the water is coming through the bricks through the doors--everything, so we have wet carpet. We have wet boxes that were on the floor. We have wet everything," one employee said.
The water main broke around 3:30 a.m. on Roxboro Street near Denfield Street. It took crews nearly 4 hours to shut off the water.
Health providers in the area, including a dentist office and a Duke Health primary care office, were forced to reschedule patients.
There were also other businesses on the street that saw a temporary closures like Chick-fil-A and Starbucks. But those locations only closed due to the lack of running water in the area; they did not have to deal with flooding issues. So they were able to reopen when crews got the water flowing again.
