Raleigh officer hit by car while making an arrest

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Raleigh police officer was taken to the hospital Thursday after they were hit by a driver in a parking lot.

According to the Raleigh Police Department, the incident happened in the 1100 block of Raleigh Boulevard in the parking lot of Food Lion.

Witnesses told ABC11 when officers tried to arrest a person who was sitting in a car, that person took off driving and hit one of the officers and multiple vehicles in the parking lot.

Raleigh officers were able to stop the driver, 18-year-old Mazaye Anthony James, and arrest him.

James faces several charges including felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury, felony assault with a deadly weapon upon a government employee, felony speeding to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, and felony resist delay or obstruct a public officer causing serious injury.

The officer was taken to the hospital with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries.
