ABC11 has learned that the driver of the 2015 Nissan Sentra died in the crash when they collided head-on with a tanker truck.

On Wednesday, state troopers identified the driver killed as Quentin Peter Greear, 42, of Louisburg.

A witness who said they were riding behind the car before the crash, said the driver of the car was periodically crossing over the center line for a couple of miles. Then, they crossed over the center line and slammed into the oncoming fuel truck.

The force of the crash sent the car off the road into a ditch and the fuel truck off the shoulder of the highway -- where it caught fire. The driver of the fuel truck, a 50-year-old man from Knightdale, was able to get out with only minor injuries.

State troopers said speeding appeared to be a factor in the crash and suspect drug impairment may have been a contributing factor.

Chopper 11 flew over the crash site after firefighters put out the flames. They used a type of foam that can be seen spread all across the road, the tanker truck and the ditch and woods off the highway.
