Durham Rescue Mission gives away 3,000 backpacks, school supplies to kids in need

DURHAM, North Carolina (WTVD) -- The Durham Rescue Mission's held its annual backpack giveaway Wednesday.

More than 500 volunteers gave out more than 3,000 backpacks with school supplies to children in need.



They also gave out 8,000 hot dogs, 850 pounds of barbecue, 1,800 bags of groceries and more than 12,000 pieces of clothing.

Thousands of people attended.



There were also be games and activities.
