Garner-based Butterball, LLC donated 1,500 turkeys. The organization will also distribute 1,500 turkeys for Christmas.
"We have almost 650,000 people in our service area who are food insecure, so it's tough for them to put a regular meal on their table- let alone a holiday meal," said Jennifer Caslin with the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. "So having a turkey takes a lot of pressure off the family to have some normalcy too."
The Raleigh Rescue Mission got 120 turkeys. They'll use them for their Gobbles to Go program, where they deliver Thanksgiving meals to those in need.
