Officials said the crash happened around 2 a.m. on US-401 Southbound/Fayetteville Road, just north of Ten Ten Road.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said a white 2011 Nissan traveled off the road into the median. The driver overcorrected and ran off the road into a ditch, flipping several times.
The driver fled on foot. The woman in the passenger's seat was pronounced dead at the scene. She was identified Friday as 25-year-old Griselda Liberto Martinez of Raleigh.
Investigators are still actively searching for the driver.
