FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- City leaders met with local nonprofits that serve youth in the community on Friday in Fayetteville.

Leaders held conversations focused on issues including mental health, education, workforce readiness, and safety.

A panel of eight diverse voices led the discussion, speaking directly to city leaders on what they think the real solutions are.

"The great things that they're saying in here. You know, you've got a lot of non-profits, providers. It's a city, not a school system here," said Fayetteville Mayor Mitch Colvin. "And they're talking about the gaps and the foundation. His words about laying a good foundation that starts at home. I think a lot of the things that we've done bring the parents into play, which are critical piece to success. That's what I was hearing in there today."

Leaders also discussed what local leaders could do to help teens be safer and more successful in the upcoming school year.
