According to the sheriff's office, the sheep was spotted Thursday evening near Vickers Avenue and Yancey Street.
Officials say the animal gave deputies and Durham County Animal Services quite a challenge when they attempted to take it into custody.
Fortunately, the sheep was safely captured and is now being cared for by animal services.
The sheriff's office is asking anyone who recognizes the sheep or knows who it belongs to to contact the Durham County Sheriff's Office.
Officials have not said how the sheep ended up roaming the area.
