RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Two kayakers were quickly rescued late Monday evening from the Neuse River near New Bern Avenue.
The Wake County Sheriff's Office told ABC11 that it was assisting firefighters with the effort.

Knightdale Fire Station 2 responded to the scene. The battalion chief told ABC11 that the two people were on a tandem kayak when they lost their paddles. They were able to get to an island in the middle of a river and call 911.
Raleigh and Knightdale swift water rescue teams helped with the speedy rescue. Officials said the 911 call was received at 9:52 p.m. and responders had a boat in the water at 10:07 p.m. Less than 15 minutes later, the stranded kayakers were safely rescued.
