2 shot near fast food restaurants just off NC State's campus, prompting Wolf Alert

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A shooting that happened near several Raleigh fast food restaurants just before 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday sparked a Wolf Alert at NC State.

Raleigh Police said a man and woman were injured.

Wolf Alerts are the emergency messaging system for students and staff at the university.

The confirmed a shooting happened near the Bojangles, Dunkin' and McDonald's restaurants along the 3800 block of Western Boulevard just west of campus.

Both shooting victims were taken by a private vehicle to WakeMed Urgent Care on Oberlin Road. The woman was treated there and later released, but the man was then taken to the hospital for treatment of what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.

Several police cars lined Western Boulevard in the area.



ABC11 crews on the scene saw dozens of evidence markers believed to be marking different bullets used in a shooting. Markers were scattered across the Dunkin Donuts parking lot and at least two shell casings remained on the ground Tuesday afternoon. Across the street at Bojangles, police were focusing on a black Honda hatchback parked about halfway up one of the entrance ramps.



The car was later towed away.

"It's happening in an area, like, the NC State is literally right there, like you can see the buildings of NC State and you know, it's happening here. You know, this is really, really, really scary, said Sherafghan Iftikhar, a Ph.D. student at State, who heard the shots from his room.

An employee of McDonald's, which is next to Bojangles, said he was outside cleaning when he heard five shots.
