Severe weather threat increases as temperatures, humidity finally cool

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A few severe storms popped up in the Sandhills early Monday afternoon, but they have all since passed.

The risk for severe weather remained marginal through the evening, and by 10 p.m., the severe risk was done.

Durham and Wake counties were under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning that expired at 7:45 p.m. Still, some areas, including Durham saw some spots of heavy rain even through the sunshine early Monday evening.

For Tuesday, there is a Level 1 risk of severe storms southeast of I-85. The main threat is damaging winds.

However, more high-resolution computer models have been showing fewer storms for Tuesday. There could be isolated storms with a small chance that a strong storm goes severe.



It's picture-perfect for Wednesday. It will be warm with lower humidity.

The clouds, humidity, and rain chances increase Thursday into Saturday.

This week will feature less heat and humidity, and that comes with an increased risk of severe weather.

We hit 90 at RDU on Sunday, which was the 8th day in a row with temperatures above 90 degrees. Cooler temperatures prevailed Monday.
