19-year-old killed, 2 others seriously injured in Sampson County crash

SALEMBURG, N.C. (WTVD) -- One person is dead and two others were taken to the hospital following a crash in Sampson County Saturday night.

Emergency officials responded to calls about a crash at the intersection of Minnie Hall Road and Dunn Road.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, The driver of a 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection and hit a 2009 Honda passenger vehicle before traveling off the road, flipping several times, and landing on its roof in a nearby field. Troopers said a passenger in the back of the Chevrolet was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected.

Authorities said the passenger of the Chevrolet, 19-year-old Esmeralda Salas, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet, 19-year-old Daniel Velazquez, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Honda, 62-year-old Anthony Williams, was also taken to the hospital in serious condition.



The NCSHP said alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.

No other details have been released.
