Additional $35 million could be given for Lenovo Center renovations

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Millions of additional dollars could be approved for the Lenovo Center renovation project.

The North Carolina House and Senate recently approved a bill that would provide an extra $35 million for the project. The legislation is now on the Governor's desk.

A source told ABC11 the money would be used to improve road access along Edwards Mill Road in and out of the arena site.

Qiana Bryan has been to the Lenovo Center for Canes games and concerts.

"To hear about the exciting changes that we're going to have here (is) definitely something we're looking forward to," she said.

The arena is getting a $300 million renovation, which includes new luxury suites, a viewing bar, and a marketplace for fans.

The Oak-Raleigh is a nearby restaurant and sees a good deal of business from Lenovo Center events.

It was slammed for a concert earlier this month, and staff are now bracing for a busy weekend.

"Our reservations already for that State game on Saturday night are through the roof. We've had to turn away some folks," said The Oak General Manager Hali Haught.

She is hoping the traffic flow improves with the added investment.

"It is congested whenever we have big events here," said Haught. "It would be nice to have a quicker in and out access. So hopefully they'll be able to expand the roads and do those things for us."

As a Canes fan herself, Haught can't wait to see the renovations.

"Growth is exciting. Growth is always good for all businesses," she said.

Construction is expected to start after NC State's football season comes to an end.

The renovations could take five to eight years.
