According to the sheriff's office, deputies responded around 10:53 p.m. on March 27 to a shooting at a house on Seattle Slew Lane and found Bean dead at the scene.
Officials will only say it involved a domestic dispute between two off-duty law enforcement officers.
An investigation by our newsgathering partner at the News and Observer has found that the other officer is a trooper with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
The woman at the center of the dispute -- described by authorities as a domestic violence victim -- is the sister of the Highway Patrol's commander, Col. Freddy Johnson Jr, according to the News and Observer.
ABC11 and the N&O have reached out to the Highway Patrol, the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) for more information about the incident -- and why no one has been charged.
Bean had worked for the sheriff's office since March 2006.
