RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- After a sweltering July, August has started out much below average as far as temperatures are concerned. In fact, this is the coolest start to August in Raleigh on record.

Records at RDU date back to the 1800s. When comparing our cool start to August against previous years, it has the coolest mean air temperature, which combines high and low temperatures throughout a month.

For rainfall, this August ranks as the 2nd wettest at RDU so far. August at RDU is typically a wet month averaging nearly 5 inches of rain. We've already seen over 5 inches of rain this month, with more to come.

Rain and storms are possible for most of this week; locally heavy rain may lead to street flooding Monday and Tuesday. Storm chances this weekend are spotty.

This month hasn't be all that humid so far, but tropical humidity and 90 degree temperatures return to the forecast later this week.
