Person County Sheriff Jason Wilborn said Courtney Jordan and Nick Gallardo, leaders of the Courtney Jordan Foundation (CJF America), were arrested Monday by Person County deputies at a home on Oaks Lane in Timberlake. Both men were wanted after authorities say they fled from Person County deputies during a high-speed chase on July 26.
Both men were taken to Duke Hospital with injuries after the crash, but when deputies returned to arrest them, both had slipped away from the hospital.
Jordan is facing multiple charges in Person County, including felony fleeing to elude arrest, injury to personal property, and second-degree trespassing. Gallardo is charged in Person County with felony conspiracy, second-degree trespassing, and simple possession of a controlled substance. Both men have been wanted by Durham Police since September on charges of obtaining property by false pretenses and conspiracy in connection with the foundation's operations.
They were arrested on those charges on Monday. Both men have court dates later this month on the charges.
The arrests are the latest development in an ongoing ABC11 I-Team Troubleshooter investigation into CJF America. For months, Wilson has reported on allegations from dozens of former employees who say they worked for the Durham-based foundation but were never paid. Several former workers told ABC11 they were promised paychecks that never came, leaving them unable to pay rent, utilities, and other bills.
The I-Team also uncovered lawsuits and complaints filed against the organization as former employees sought unpaid wages.
