The sendoff followed a historic Super Regional victory against Southern California and a 50-win season for the Tar Heels. With the program still seeking its first national title, head coach Scott Forbes said the team's focus is firmly on the games ahead.
"We're going out there to try to win, try to win a national championship. That's first and foremost," Forbes said.
Forbes added that the team is preparing for its opening matchup against Ole Miss on Friday.
"We prepared well. We've had three days to practice and work out and be prepared, and I feel good about that," he said.
As players boarded the bus, fans waved goodbye and offered well-wishes for the week ahead. The Diamond Heels open their College World Series run Friday at 5 p.m., with the game airing on ESPN.
"This is a Mecca for going to Omaha," fan Sandy Rasnake said. "I'll be going, my first trip, and it's on my bucket list. So I'm really excited about that."
