Durham man killed after person fires multiple rounds into vehicle

DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- A man was killed Saturday afternoon after a person shot several times into the vehicle he was riding in.

Police said the shooting happened in the 3600 block of Keystone Place just before 5:15 p.m. Officers said two people in a white sedan were driving near the intersection of Dearborn Drive and Old Oxford Road when a person pulled beside their vehicle and fired multiple rounds into the passenger side, and drove away.

Police said the driver of the white sedan then drove to Dearborn Drive, turned right on Keystone Place, and parked the vehicle before running away on foot.

The passenger, 20-year-old Ricky Orlando Nichols Jr., was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Dearborn Drive and Old Oxford Road are closed while police continue to investigate.
