Hopscotch Festival returns to downtown Raleigh

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Hopscotch Festival is back this year which means the rest of the weekend will be filled with people, great music and for local business hopefully a lot of foot traffic.

Hopscotch is one of the many big events that bring tourists to the Capital City.

Visit Raleigh reports across Wake County last year, hotel lodging and tax collections were up nearly 8% over 2023 with prepared food and beverage tax collections up 4%.

Hotel occupancy increased by 1.8% coming in higher than both the state and national average.

Retailers like those at Total Herbal Care say they feel like they're poised to get a lot of business this week, but also wonder if changes to the Dreamville Festival and the loss of bluegrass festival will change Raleigh as a music destination.

"As somebody who's grown up in Raleigh my entire life, live music is literally part of the pulse. It's part of what makes Raleigh, Raleigh. And so it's really important to have events like Hopscotch that bring people in and show them, hey, we're a fun place. We have lots going on. We have lots to do there's a really great culture here, especially in downtown Raleigh, for like live music at bars," said Elliot Anderson who works at Total Herbal Care.
