It happened just after 3 p.m. in the 600 block of E. Knox Street.
According to police, responding officers found Damien Tinsley, 23, dead at the scene. A woman, later identified as London Powers, 21, was found with life-threatening injuries. She was taken to a hospital. On Tuesday, DPD said she died from her injuries.
Powers was a junior at North Carolina Central University studying social work. The university said in a statement:
"London was a dedicated member of the University Honors program with aspirations to earn her Master of Social Work degree, focusing on adolescent and mental health. London's professors and peers will remember her as a vibrant, hard-working and supportive student who poured her heart into her social work cohort."
Powers, according to the school, was recently elected as an event coordinator for the NCCU Social Work Society for the 2025-26 school year. She was also preparing to intern at the Durham Center for Senior Life.

Tinsley was from Durham, and NCCU said Powers was from Washington, DC.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and appears to be an isolated incident.
