
DURHAM COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Brand new data from Durham County Sheriff's Office shows violent crime is down across Durham County.
Sheriff Clarence Birkhead released the new statistics.
Over the first six months of this year, the top eight crimes were down 26% compared to the same period last year.
Those include murder, sex offenses, robbery, aggravated assault, and more.
Sheriff Birkhead applauded his deputies and the work they are doing with the community to reduce crime.
Meantime, we also learned deputies have seized 69 guns so far this year and 17 of 25 stolen guns have been recovered.
