Memorial Day events happening across the Triangle in 2026

Communities across the Triangle are preparing to honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military with a series of Memorial Day ceremonies on Monday.

From Raleigh to Chapel Hill, several events are planned throughout the day, giving people a chance to pause, reflect and pay their respects.

Apex


In Apex, a Memorial Day ceremony will take place at 9:30 a.m. at Fire Station 1 on North Salem Street.

Cary


The Town of Cary will host a Memorial Day Remembrance at 2:30 p.m. at Veterans Freedom Park on North Harrison Avenue. Limited seating will be available, and attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.

Chapel Hill


Orange County's annual Veterans Memorial Day Service will be held from 8:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Site on Homestead Road in Chapel Hill. The ceremony honors the sacrifices of American servicemembers and is open to the community.

Durham


In Durham, Durham County Veteran Services is hosting a Memorial Day Remembrance event at 9 a.m. at the William V. Bell Building, located at 201 E. Main Street. The ceremony will take place in Conference Room 126 and is free and open to the public.

Fayetteville


There will be a Memorial Day Ceremony at Freedom Memorial Park at the corner of Hay Street and Bragg Boulevard. It's a free event from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Town officials say a new monument will be unveiled in honor of the often forgotten service men and women.

Garner


Garner's Memorial Day Observance is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at the Garner Veterans Memorial in Lake Benson Park. The park is located at 921 Buffaloe Road.

Knightdale


Knightdale will hold its Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial in Knightdale Station Park.

Raleigh


In Raleigh, a Memorial Day service will be held at Historic Oakwood Cemetery from 4 to 5 p.m. The ceremony takes place at the Field of Honor at 701 Oakwood Avenue. Event organizers say chairs will be available, and guests can follow posted signs for parking.

Visitors can also explore the cemetery earlier in the day with free guided tours at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., meeting at the cemetery office.





Montlawn Memorial Park will also host a Memorial Day tribute at 11 a.m. at 2911 S. Wilmington Street. The community is invited to gather with family and friends to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Across the Triangle, these ceremonies offer a chance to come together, reflect and honor the lives of those who served and sacrificed for the country.
