RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- The family of 27-year-old Terrance Quarles is speaking out after his shooting death Monday night on Thelma Street, just off New Bern Avenue.

Quarles was a father of two young children, ages 8 months and 4 years old. His mother, Chakita Ballard, said he was her only son and youngest child.

"I miss him more than life itself. That was my baby," Ballard said, surrounded by her family. "He was a good child, but he wasn't perfect."

Ballard said she moved her family from Washington, D.C., to escape gun violence, only to have it "meet her at their front door."

"I'm tired of this gun violence. I'm tired of the shooting. I brought my baby down here to live a better life, but obviously wasn't better because, you know, the gun violence. We need to get rid of that. Today," Ballard said.

Police have charged three people in connection with Quarles' death. All three appeared before a Wake County judge on Tuesday. Ballard said she did not know any of the individuals accused in the case.

"I had no idea. I've never met any of these people. I don't know who it is. You know, me and my son was close, but I don't know who these people are. So, but I want them to. I want justice to be done," she said.

Quarles' family is raising funds online to help with funeral arrangements. The three people arrested in the case are expected back in court next month.
