Bed bugs shutdown a Durham DMV office while crews work to remediate the facility

DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- Cones are blocking the driveway into the NC DMV on South Miami Boulevard in Durham, and signs are posted on the door notifying customers that the office is temporarily shut down.

A spokesperson says bed bugs were brought in last week by a customer.

"(It's) crazy - bed bugs," said Durham resident George Gadri.

A state transportation department spokesperson tells ABC11 the office was treated on Friday and the building will be sealed for the rest of the week.

Natesha Chandler says she lives pretty close to the location, but last night, on social media, she saw a post about the closure.

"Honestly, I didn't want to go in there," said Chandler. "I sent it to my daughter. I said 'Girl, we ain't gone there,' and I told her to go ahead and start looking up locations. We found this one and I'm glad that we came here, honestly, because people are great."

The Transportation Department is planning to reopen the South Miami Boulevard location on July 13th.

A spokesperson says there will be an inspection to make sure the problem has been remedied.
