Escazú has been making award-winning, handmade, micro-batch chocolate from Latin American cacao beans since 2008. The company recently expanded into a new location at Gateway Plaza, bringing exciting new features to its chocolate factory in the Capital City.
In addition to their popular chocolate bars, confections, and coffee drinks, Escazú now offers scooped ice cream, expanded hours, indoor and outdoor seating, and a chocolate-making viewing area where visitors can watch the entire process.
"We have windows and you can look into every step of the chocolate-making process, which is new and really exciting," said Tiana Young, co-owner of Escazú Chocolates.
"There are some of our machines that people didn't get to lay their eyes on - that they can see now," added Danielle Centeno, also a co-owner.
Centeno said visitors are often surprised by the hands-on nature of the work. "When people realize we make everything as close to from-scratch as possible - and you see the big machines - it's like, oh, OK. And then you explain how long it takes to get to where they can eat it. That's pretty amazing."
Escazú ships its products and supplies chocolate to many retailers and restaurants across the state.
