Heavy rain poured in downtown Raleigh, accompanied by strong winds and thunder.

Trees were reported down in spots across Wake County, Johnston County, Wilson County, and around Rocky Mount.
Some of those trees caused power outages.
A power substation sustained some damage after a tree fell on Landmark Road in western Johnston County. Multiple power lines were down, and crews were working to restore power for about 1,000 customers.
Damage was also reported around Shadow Lake Road and Sweet Briar Road near Ainger.

The storm also affected southeastern Wake County.
Firefighters responded to a house fire in the 1600 block of Kendall Hill Road in Willow Spring.
Strong storm brings down trees; Lightning causes Wake Co. house fire
Fuquay-Varina Fire Chief Jim Jones said the home was hit by lightning. The fire started around 2 p.m. in the attic of the three-story home.
No injuries were reported.
Sandhills also affected
In the Sandhills, a tree fell across Maxwell Road in the Clement Community of Sampson County.
Clement Fire Rescue found the tree blocking both lanes. Firefighters cut the tree out of the roadway, and the street reopened about 30 minutes later.
A second round of storms is expected in the area later Thursday evening. Some may form around midnight or shortly after.
