Operation Robocall Roundup includes three enforcement actions, such as issuing warning letters to 37 voice service providers, demanding they halt illegal robocalls routed through their networks. The effort, led by Jackson, involves the Anti-robocall Litigation Task Force, made up of 51 bipartisan attorneys general.
These voice service providers, as stated in a news release, "have not complied with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules regarding responses to government traceback requests, failed to register in the FCC's Robocall Mitigation Database, or neglected to submit a plan outlining measures to reduce illegal robocalls on their networks."
By not following these rules, these companies enable robocallers to access their networks and pass their calls through downstream providers, ultimately reaching phones in North Carolina.
"North Carolinians are getting bombarded with millions of invasive robocalls every day, and these communication companies are not following the rules to protect us," Jackson said. "We are giving these companies three weeks to start following the rules so we can shield people from these annoying and illegal robocalls."
