Rockingham County Sheriff Sam Page has extended his lead over longtime Senate Leader Phil Berger.
Page now leads by 23 votes after leading by just two on election night.
But the race is still not final.
The margin is less than 1%, meaning it could trigger a recount after results are certified on March 13.
After the provisional votes were counted, Berger gained 12 votes in Guilford County while Page picked up three. But in Rockingham County, Page garnered 56 additional votes while Berger got 26.
On Friday night, Berger released a statement that said in part: "As we wait for the election results to be reviewed one week from today, our legal team will continue to evaluate the situation. If we believe a recount is merited, I will pursue that avenue, as allowed by law."
