Driver ticketed for I-40 crash that littered road with trash Tuesday morning

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Interstate 40 near Gorman Street and Avent Ferry Road in Raleigh closed down to just one lane in both directions Tuesday morning when a truck hauling garbage overturned.



The crash, which happened around 5:30 a.m., caused trash to be littered all over the interstate in both directions.

Crews were on the scene for hours, clearing trash from the road. Backups stretched for miles and extended onto several side roads, causing a massively delayed morning commute.



The driver of the truck was issued a traffic citation for failure to maintain their lane. No further details about what caused the crash have been released.
