Officers responded about 12:45 p.m. Monday to the Baymont Inn at 125 S. Equity Drive. First responders attempted first aid, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman's death was treated as a homicide, police said, and they quickly developed a suspect through a vehicle.
The suspect, Eric Jonathan Nelson, 49, was apprehended in Virginia and is awaiting extradition back to North Carolina.
The identity of the victim has not been disclosed.
