The company said, Lane Sheer and Toni Yrlas, were shot as two unrelated groups got into an argument on the street.

Preiss said as of Tuesday, Sheer is still in the hospital in the ICU with serious injuries while Yrlas is recovering at home.

Sheer's family released the following statement:
"Our daughter, Lane is one of the kindest humans you would have the good fortune to know. She loves her family and friends and is generous with all of us. She loves working for The Preiss Company. She started with them as an intern while attending NC State. We are devastated by the events of Friday night and are doing everything we can to support her and help her make it through this evil act of violence. I hope many who see your report will say a prayer for her quick and complete recovery."

Sheer and Yrlas were in San Diego for a conference hosted by the National Apartment Association, which said it was aware of the shooting that happened in the Gaslamp Quarter after the conference ended.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims," NAA said. "As we await results from the investigation underway with the San Diego Police Department, NAA leadership is conferring with our state and local associations to best determine how we can assist the victims."
