Light snow north and west of the Triangle lasted until around 1 p.m. before transitioning to all rain. Outside of a light, slushy coating of snow in spots, no major travel impacts are expected.
A few showers mainly from Raleigh and areas south happened from around lunchtime into early evening.
A developing coastal storm brings a separate risk for showers Monday night, but once again, the Triangle appears most likely to be on the fringes of precipitation, this time on the northwestern end.
This chance for rain lasts into early Tuesday, but the best risk will be closer to the shore, where rain could continue into the evening as the storm tracks northward along the East Coast.
A very cold mass settles over the area this week with Wednesday morning feels-like temps in the teens and single digits.
Another cold front takes highs to downright frigid levels next weekend, meaning the mid-30s to around 40 in this case.
People preparing for extreme cold
Runners at Lake Johnson were bundled up Monday and utilizing things like hand warmers, but they were still able to get in some exercise before the arrival of the coldest air of the season.
"I had to take my jacket off because I got hot. It's not cold yet," one person told our ABC11 crew.

Temperatures Monday were in the 50s but later this week highs will not be getting out of the 30s.

Meanwhile, Carolina Hurricanes fans took advantage of the cold to get into the mood ahead of puck drop Monday night against the Los Angeles Kings.
"It's not as cold as I thought it was going to be," Laura Burke said.
"When you've got the Canes gear, you're invincible," Cramer Davey said.
