Chantal recovery: Volunteers helping restore damaged Pittsboro home

Saturday, August 9, 2025
PITTSBORO, N.C. (WTVD) -- It's officially been one month since Tropical Storm Chantal passed through central North Carolina.

Many areas saw record flooding from the storm, including the town of Pittsboro.

On Saturday, dozens of volunteers with Full Gospel International Missions Inc. helped one family who lost nearly everything in the storm after their home was damaged by flooding caused by Chantal.

"We've never seen anything like this. There's never been water in our house but basically up to our light switches on the first floor," said Rebecca Blough, who, along with her husband, Ryan, sustained major damage to their Pittsboro home. "So, all of our furniture was destroyed, all of our clothing, belongings, heirlooms, everything was gone."

But some help -- and comfort -- arrived this weekend.

"The lord spoke, and said we've got to help these people," volunteer Kevin Barbour said.

He and other volunteers spent part of the day working on the interior of the Bloughs' home. There's no word yet on how long it will take to fully restore this family home. But it's a start.
