DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- New details were revealed in the deadly shooting inside Durham police headquarters.

Last May, 19-year-old Joshua Farmer was being questioned by police about a murder investigation. At some point, he lunged for an officer's weapon and was shot during the struggle.

New warrants released Friday show that Farmer lunged for the gun when officers removed his handcuffs as he was being prepared for transfer to another facility. Three officers were involved in the struggle, and the weapon Farmer had reached for went off twice, hitting him in the neck and head.

Investigators are now asking for Farmer's medical records at the time he was being detailed.

At the time of the shooting, Durham Police Chief Patrice Andrews said, "The suspect fired the shot from the gun that was in his control."

Farmer is not known to have any history of suicidal ideation or attempt, and there is no reported history of substance abuse.
