NC Weather: Extreme heat, chance for severe storms

Monday, August 14, 2023
RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Spotty storms popped up across central North Carolina on Monday.

Interestingly, the areas getting storms may actually be catching a break. That's because the storm at least causes a cooldown. Areas that are not getting storms are seeing feels-like temperatures above 110 degrees.

Extreme heat across the Triangle

Hot and humid conditions continue through Tuesday with dangerously high heat index values of 105 to 109 when it comes to weather.

Strong thunderstorms are also possible Tuesday.

On Tuesday a cold front moves in and the severe risk will be elevated to a level 2 threat. Locally heavy downpours will be possible.

That same front stalls Wednesday and Thursday, keeping showers and storms around the region.

Wednesday will bring cooler temperatures, with highs around 90 degrees. On Thursday, there may be morning storms and highs also about 90 degrees.

But for the weekend, we should be drying out with temperatures in the low to mid-90s.
