Dawn Mangum appeared in court on Thursday before Judge Collins at the Wake County Courthouse, where the judge ordered her to undergo a forensic evaluation.
The order was originally issued in February 2025. Mangum was supposed to complete the evaluation before returning to court the following month, but she failed to appear for that March 2025 hearing.
According to prosecutors, law enforcement officers were unable to locate Mangum until last week, when she was arrested out of state and brought back to North Carolina.
Mangum faces criminal charges of attempting to obtain property by false pretenses and forgery of deeds dating back to the fall of 2024.
ABC11 first reported on the case after homeowner Craig Adams discovered the deed to his nearly $4 million North Raleigh home had been transferred into Mangum's name without his knowledge. Adams later sued Mangum in civil court, where a judge ruled the deed transfer was fraudulent.
During Thursday's hearing, Mangum pleaded not guilty to the criminal charges. Judge Collins ordered her to be taken to Central Regional Prison in Butner for the forensic evaluation.
