NC woman accused of deed forgery on man's $4M home jailed after no show in court

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A woman at the center of an ABC11 Troubleshooter investigation involving a multimillion-dollar North Raleigh home is back behind bars after failing to appear in court.

Dawn Mangum was arrested last Friday and is now being held on more than a half-million-dollar bond, according to court records.

Mangum has been wanted by law enforcement since March 2025 after she failed to appear in court on criminal charges connected to a warranty deed filed against homeowner Craig Adams' North Raleigh property.

ABC11 Troubleshooter Diane Wilson first reported on the case nearly two years ago after Adams discovered Mangum had obtained a warranty deed connected to his $4 million home.

"Found out that she had filed a false warranty claim deed against this house and basically tried to steal it," Adams previously said.

Following ABC11's reporting, Mangum was charged with attempting to obtain property under false pretenses and forgery of deeds or wills. She has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

During a February 2025 court appearance, a judge said the criminal case could not move forward until Mangum completed a forensic evaluation that had previously been ordered by the court.

The judge warned Mangum she would be taken into custody if the evaluation was not completed by her March court date. After that February hearing, Mangum left the courtroom waving at ABC11's camera and said, "I hope for justice, you know."

When Mangum failed to appear in March 2025, warrants were issued for her arrest. Court records show Mangum is now jailed on charges of failure to appear, in addition to the original charges of attempting to obtain property under false pretenses and forgery of deeds or wills.

Mangum's next court date is scheduled for June.

Adams told ABC11 he was shocked but relieved to learn Mangum is back behind bars and said he wants to see justice in the case. In a separate civil case, a judge ruled the deed Mangum allegedly filed was fraudulent and ordered her to pay Adams' legal fees.

Adams said he has not received any money from that judgment.
