Several Fayetteville customers say they paid a local blind company for window treatments but were left waiting months, and in some cases, years, for the work to be completed.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- Several Fayetteville residents said they paid a local blind company for window treatments but were left waiting months, and in some cases, years, for the work to be completed.

Bernice Lipscomb said she paid more than $5,400 in February 2024 to the owner of Blinds Plus in Fayetteville for Swag window treatments, but Lipscomb said the window treatments were never installed.

"She never came back to install. I never saw them," Lipscomb told Troubleshooter Diane Wilson.

She said she was repeatedly given excuses and promises that the work would be completed.

"It was always some excuse all the time," Lipscomb said. According to Lipscomb, the owner repeatedly told her, "I'll be back," and promised to return to install the window treatments. After waiting more than two years, Lipscomb said she was done waiting and wanted her money back.

"I heard it on TV, how you always solved these problems, and I thought, well, you know, I'm going to try for myself," she told the Troubleshooter.

Another customer, Carol Lewis, said she paid a $556 deposit to Blinds Plus in December for shutters for her home daycare. Lewis says she was initially told the shutters would arrive before Christmas.

"If you order right now, you'll get them before Christmas," Lewis said she was told.

But six months later, Lewis said the shutters still had not been installed.

"I need blinds up to this window. I have children up here," Lewis said to Wilson.

Wilson reached out to Blinds Plus owner Letetia Libby, who said, "I'm sincerely sorry and frankly embarrassed that the situation reached this point. I take this matter seriously and regret that it came to this."

After Wilson got involved, Lipscomb said to Wilson, "I got my money. I got my check. It's safe in the bank now."

She told Wilson she's happy she got her full refund of more than $5,400.

After contacting Wilson, Lewis said the company moved forward with completing the job.

"It seemed like it put a little fire under her, and she decided she would do what she was supposed to do," Lewis said.

The shutters were eventually installed in Lewis' home daycare.

"I want to thank you so much. Thank you so much for helping me. I appreciate it," Lewis told Wilson. "Don't you ever go anywhere. You stay in there and continue to help us, because you are a gem."

Besides Lipscomb and Lewis, another woman who hired Blinds Plus in 2024 also contacted Wilson after her job was not completed. The owner provided that customer with a full refund after Wilson became involved.

Libby also told Wilson she is working to resolve two other cases brought to her attention by ABC11.
