Authorities confirm body pulled from Harris Lake was missing boater

WAKE COUNTY (WTVD) -- Authorities have confirmed that the body recovered from Harris Lake is 53-year-old Ellis Rodney McCoy.

McCoy's body was pulled from Harris Lake Tuesday morning around 11:30 a.m.

Multiple crews searched the lake after the Wake County Sheriff's Office said it received a call just before 2 p.m. on Monday about reports of a possible person overboard near the 4400 block of Bartley Holleman Road.

The caller said they heard a voice coming from the direction of the boat. However, he went to check and said no one was on the vessel.

Deputies said the boat was registered to McCoy, of Fuquay-Varina.

Authorities suspended the search Monday night because of darkness but later resumed searching Tuesday morning.

McCoy's body was released to the medical examiner's office for further investigation.
