CLAYTON (WTVD) -- Pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk has revealed it plans to develop a facility in Clayton and create hundreds of jobs for the area.
The announcement came Wednesday that the multi-national pharmaceutical company headquartered in Bagsvrd, Denmark would create at least 600 new positions.
The facility will make ingredients for diabetes drugs.
"This billion-dollar decision by Novo Nordisk more than doubles the size of its North Carolina workforce and underscores the Research Triangle's global leadership in bio-manufacturing," said Governor McCrory in a statement. "When it comes to life sciences and manufacturing, North Carolina can compete - and win - against any location in the world."
The drug-making company already employees just over 700 workers at its existing plant near Clayton. That plant opened in 1996.
The new positions at Novo Nordisk will have salaries averaging just under $70,000.
Novo Nordisk employs 39,700 people across 75 countries.
