GARNER, North Carolina (WTVD) -- The Wake County Sheriff's Office has charged a Garner man with the kidnapping and statutory rape of a teen who was reported as a runaway earlier this month.

The girl - who is younger than 15 - was reported missing in Johnston County by her family September 3.

Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison said while she was missing she got into a car with 51-year-old Robert Junior Forbes.

Harrison said the alleged crime was discovered when the teen was located by deputies from Johnston, Wake, and Nash counties.

In addition to kidnapping and statutory rape, Forbes is also charged with indecent liberties with a child.

Sheriff Harrison said the alleged crime is a reminder to parents to keep preaching "stay away from strangers" and "never get in a car with a stranger."

Bond for Forbes was set at $1 million.
