LEE COUNTY (WTVD) -- Authorities are actively searching for a 16-year-old that they say robbed and then fatally shot a 35-year-old Sanford man.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office says Taveun Dayquan Davis, also of Sanford, should be considered armed and dangerous.
He is wanted in connection with the shooting that happened around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at 622 Beulah Brown Road in Sanford.
When deputies arrived, they found Marcus Laverne Murchison suffering from several gunshot wounds. He was taken to UNC hospital and died Thursday morning of his injuries.
His girlfriend said she was told by investigators that Davis was an acquaintance of Murchison and had robbed the victim before the shooting. She said Davis shot at her, but she was not injured.
Yolanda McIver said she found Murchison with several gunshots. She lives across the street and came running over when Murchison's girlfriend was yelling out for help.
"He was laying face down in a pool of blood. He was still breathing at that time, so it was horrible," said McIver. "Someone else had called 911. I had put pressure on his back and I prayed for him. I was talking to him, trying to see if he was responsive, but he was not responding. "
The Lee County Sheriff's Office has issued warrants for Davis' arrest. He faces charges of murder, attempted first-degree murder, and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Davis is urged to call 911 or the Lee County Sheriff's Office (919) 775-5531 or Tip line at (919) 718-4577.
