83-year-old man drowns in small lake in Southern Pines

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (WTVD) -- Emergency responders were called Saturday afternoon to a reported drowning at a small lake in Southern Pines.

It happened around 1 p.m. off Gossman Drive.

Emergency officials said the 83-year-old man died after somehow ending up in the small lake. Officials said they could not immediately determine if he had slipped on the edge of the water, had a medical emergency, or had walked into the water.

Authorities identified the victim as William Grine.

Southern Pines Fire and Rescue, Moore County EMS, Southern Pines Police Department, and the NC State Medical Examiner's Office all responded to the incident.
