CLAYTON, N.C. (WTVD) -- Late Thursday afternoon, teenagers fishing in a creek bed just below Amelia Village Apartments found a man's body. It's in an area just off Amelia Church Road in Clayton.
"I looked out the window and there were like three or four cop cars and they just kept coming," said Linda Reiter, who lives in the apartments. "I saw a couple of kids with fishing poles -- figured they found drugs -- cop cars kept coming, then I saw on the news they found a body."
Town of Clayton Public Information Officer Stacy Beard said the body was decomposed but still intact.
No identification was found on the man and there's no word yet on how the man died. However, authorities said there was no immediate indication of foul play.
The body was examined, but the medical examiner said the cause of death could not yet be determined.
The medical examiner has requested medical records for all recent missing person cases in Johnston County and surrounding areas to help make a positive identification.
Officials said the body won't be identified until sometime next week at the earliest.
