APEX, NC (WTVD) -- A woman's car suffered heavy damage Thursday when she was hit by a freight train in southern Apex.

She was leaving a produce stand at S. Salem Street and Grappenhall Drive and told police she heard the train, but didn't see it, and so she pulled out.

The train was going about 35 miles an hour and mangled the front of her car.

The woman was checked out by emergency workers, but was not badly hurt.
