Police search for motive as Cary murder suspect sits in jail
Cary police have arrested Daniel Scott Remington, 36, of Cary.

CARY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Hours after Cary police issued an arrest warrant for the man suspected of gunning down a nurse at Hyde Park Court Apartments, 36-year-old Daniel Remington was rounded up by police in Fayetteville. Investigators say Remington lives in Cary.

Remington is expected to make his first appearance before a Wake County judge on Monday. As he sits behind bars, investigators are working to find out whether there's any link between Remington and the victim, 58-year-old Wendy Johnson.

The manhunt that started in Cary ended more than 24 hours later on Hunter Circle in Fayetteville.

A woman who lives out there had no idea that someone was wanted for murder almost 80 miles north of her neighborhood.

Friday night around 11, several 911 calls led police to Hyde Park Court Apartments in Cary.

Cary police released the numerous 911 calls made that night. In one call, the caller described hearing yelling, "I'm in the parking lot, I believe I heard a gunshot and I can hear someone yelling from outside."

In another call, a caller says "I just heard a really big gunshot."

The operator asks "How many shots?" and the caller responds "I only heard one and then people running."

When police arrived, they found Johnson lying on the pavement with a gunshot wound.

Investigators with tracking dogs combed the area for the shooter.

The next night a warrant was issued for Remington's arrest.

Just hours later, the investigation led to Hunter Circle, and woke up a normally quiet neighborhood.

It all ended with Remington in handcuffs.

No word from police about what led up to the shooting.

Remington's record shows his trouble with the law stretches back many years, and includes charges for breaking and entering and larceny.

Now he's accused of murder.

Police have offered no connection between the suspect and the victim.

And that the only thing ABC11 found is that at one point he was incarcerated in Sanford, in Lee County, which is where police say the victim is from.

Residents of Hyde Park Court say Johnson was a night nurse and was there to take care of a patient, a small child.

This marks Cary's fourth murder of 2014.
