JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Fire crews battled a brush fire close to the Clayton Bypass near the New Bethel Road bridge bypass in Johnston County Thursday.
The blaze broke out around 3:45 p.m. and spread quickly toward homes and buildings. At one point, the flames were jumping above the tree tops.
Firefighters, however, managed to keep the fire from spreading to any structures.
They spent much of the evening dousing hot spots.
There's no word on what started the blaze.
