ORANGE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Orange County prosecutors alleged Thursday that Chandler Kania tested positive for marijuana the night he drove the wrong way down I-85, killing three people.
On July 31, prosecutors also revealed that tests showed Kania's blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit that night.
Kania is charged with three counts of second-degree murder, three counts of felony death by a motor vehicle, and one count of felony serious injury by a motor vehicle in the deaths of 46-year-old Darlene McGee of Charlotte, her 49-year-old friend Felecia Harris of Charlotte, and Harris' 6-year-old granddaughter Jahnice Beard of Brooklyn, New York.
Kania was released from jail after his family posted a $1 million bond. His next court date is Aug. 10.
